Our rehabilitation center aims to provide a high quality of care and treatment to people that has been dual diagnosed with both chronic addiction problems and psychiatric disorders. We provide the right tools and examples to improve the guidance and care for chronically dual diagnosed patients in residential facilities and to better tailor the treatment for the addiction and psychiatric problems of our patients. Our basic principle for our treatment programs is that attention is paid to both addiction and psychiatric problems in an integrated manner.
We offer a range of effective treatment programs to our dual diagnosed patients tailored to their specific needs to overcome their addiction or psychiatric problems.
The dual diagnosis problem has long existed in Aruba. Until recently little has been done to seriously tackle this growing problem. A group of concerned professionals confirmed this issue as they believed that the existing and widely practiced instruments were insufficient to effectively treat dual diagnosis patients.
In the year 2004 this group of concerned professionals organized a national symposium titled "Am I an Addicted or Do I Have a Psychiatric Problem or Do I Have Both?" The symposium focused primarily on the dual diagnosis target group, which became known in mental health care at the time. In 2004, there were only 4 dual diagnoses official registered cases. At present day, there are more than 800 dual diagnosis patient cases officially registered in Aruba. Until the year 2021 there were no rehabilitation centers that offer proper treatment programs for these dual diagnoses patients.
After many years of intensively studying the vicious cycle of dual diagnosis problems in Aruba. Fundacion Girasol was officially founded on August 11 of 2021.
We are helping people with dual diagnosed problems who voluntarily seek the help that they need when they are ready to rehabilitate and treat their problems.
We are helping their family members to create a better understanding of the problem and provide them with tools to deal with the situation the best way possible.
We are helping the people that are close to our patients that have been impacted in some form, to create a better understanding of the situation and how to deal with the problem.
We are helping the people in the community that have been affected by this problem in some form, to create awareness around how to deal with dual diagnose problems.
